How do parents choose baby names?

Hey!

Thanks for your question! How parents choose baby names is a great question that I'm afraid I can't speak on with personal experience, so instead, I'm going to provide my unsolicited opinion!

Regarding baby names, the world is really your toaster (as Spongebob would say). You could name your baby Nigel for all I care, and I wouldn't bat an eye. Now is that the best name to call a young, vulnerable child susceptible to middle school bullies? Well, that's down to you and what you think.

Naming a child is an incredibly personal experience that is no one's business except the parents. For example, Kylie Jenner named her child Wolf - she probably wasn't thinking of the middle school bullies when this decision was made - ironic because the internet bullied her into changing it. Anyways, this ties back to my point because Kylie and Travis didn't share the new and improved name for their baby until very recently - supporting that naming a child is a very personal experience!

Using the Kardashian-Jenner family as an example in this article probably isn't the most relatable, though, because for all I know, Kim Kardashian runs down a list of cities and cardinal directions with her eyes closed to pick.

When choosing your baby's name, I would say that the most critical factor to consider is what makes you happy. After all, you'll be calling them that for the rest of their lives (unless they decide to change it later on down the line, you know, if you called them Nigel).

The way parents choose names for their babies is entirely individual, and to say that all parents choose names the same way would be counterproductive. Some people might use a random name generator, while others might spend years brainstorming and deciding. It's all relative.

Thanks for your question!

xoxo
