I want to wear makeup to school
Dear Friend,
Of course it is appropriate to wear makeup to school as it is a form of creativity and self expression. There is no reason for anyone to stop you from wearing makeup to school--it is completely your own choice. However, it would be great to also have your parents be supportive of that. Let me be very honest with you, you might not think this way but nobody is actually there to judge you for it. It is completely normal for students to wear makeup at ISB, and there is also a large percentage of the student population who don’t. You should feel safe and comfortable with doing whatever with your outfits as well as makeup.
Regarding how much makeup you should be wearing to school, again, it is up to you to decide! I would, however, recommend you start with keeping it simple when you first start wearing makeup to school, and slowly transition into wearing more if that’s what you would like. You could start with using products like concealer, foundation, mascara, eyeliner, brow products and perhaps some colour on the lips (lip gloss, tinted balm, or lipstick)—go for a natural makeup look. This would work well as you are not coming to school with heavy makeup everyday and it is also less time consuming. Trust me, doing your makeup can take a very long time in the morning, and for someone like me I’d rather get that 30-40 minutes of extra sleep ;). Once you are comfortable with wearing makeup to school and have figured out what works for you, you can consider adding more steps (and colours!) to your makeup routine (i.e. blush, eyeshadow, highlighter...etc.). I do sometimes wear very minimal makeup to school but most of the days I can’t really be bothered. However, if you’ve got some extra time in the morning or you are already very proficient with makeup, then by all means go for it!
Please be reminded that if you are going to wear makeup on a regular, daily basis, I would highly recommend you to also establish a skincare routine. Since (excessive use of) cosmetic products can cause skin irritations or even acne breakouts, you should ensure that you always remove your makeup thoroughly at the end of the day and ideally perform a skincare routine to maintain healthy skin conditions. It would also be good if you could take breaks every once in a while to give your skin the time it needs to rest and repair so that you are not consistently abusing it with makeup products.
Have a great one and let us know how it goes!
Yours sincerely,
Dear Letterbox
