Hey! I’m going to present you 3 overused slangs that you should probably know, and 3 cOoL catchphrases. I’ll present them, explain them, and then use them in a sentence. P.s Thanks Urban Dictionary (https://www.urbandictionary.com/)!
Overused Slangs
1. On God
On God is a phrase which is a way of saying that someone is telling the truth. Similar to another phrase such as "I swear to God." On God is essentially just a cooler way of saying "I swear to god"
Example:
Person 1: Really?
Person 2: On God, bruh.
2. No Cap / Capping
Basically another word for lying. It can be used like no cap or you can say stop capping. People would often use the blue cap emoji 🧢 to reference for ‘cap’. You can also use this when you see someone is lying for no reason. So in this case, when you say “you capping”, it means “actually why would you say this”.
Example:
Person 1: No cap bruh,I really like her.
Person 2: Stop capping bruh, if you’re for real, ask her out!!
3. For reals / Fr
A phrase to emphasize when something is “real” - whatever that may be. This is a very overused phrase as what is “real” can be very subjective (TOK moment), so the phrase often just gets thrown around randomly and loses its meaning.
Example:
Person 1: My cat did a barrel roll
Person 2: For real??
Person 1: For real.
Now, those were some over used slangs that had their meanings diluted through the over-usage. We will now present three up-and-coming phrases that are quite applicable on a daily basis.
1. Cope
Sometimes the best catchphrase is something that is simple but to the point. The word “cope” tells the other person to stop what they’re doing, and to “deal with it”. It is a concise way of being upfront with someone without being impolite either.
Example:
Person 1: Dude I can’t solve related rates problems
Person 2: Cope.
2. Cry ab it
Honestly, this has to be my favorite up-and-coming catchphrase. As we all know, the free ski prodigy Aileen Gu has won her spotlight in the olympics, but honestly, her come backs on the internet has been great as well. ‘Cry about it’, or as she said, ‘Cry ab it’ is the best comeback to use when you do an absolutely outrageous move, and everyone gets mad or angry about it. Yet, they can’t do anything about it, hence, cry about it. However, please refrain from using this too often, otherwise you will look c-o-c-k-y.
Example:
3. Skill Issue
Originating from the gaming community, skill issue may be defined as lacking the specific skills to accomplish something. This phrase may be used to politely remind someone to improve on something in a joking manner.
Example:
Person 1: Bruh I can’t believe I actually messed up on significant figures on my chemistry test
Person 2: Bruh skill issues
Bonus: How to use these three phrases together?
To conclude, these are some examples of overused and cool catch phrases. Let us know of any other examples you know!
