Hello!
As an avid Timothée Chalamet fan, I was very eager for the release of the 2021 adaption of Dune. The official Rotten Tomatoes rating for Dune is 82%, with critics stating that “Dune occasionally struggles with its unwieldy source material, but those issues are largely overshadowed by the scope and ambition of this visually thrilling adaptation” (Rotten Tomatoes). I believe the cast was filled with numerous talented actors, such as Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, and others, who impressively depicted their characters. Although the sound production could be deafening at certain times, the music choice helped support the film’s overall suspenseful, dystopian mood. Also, I would recommend watching the movie with subtitles; the subtitles, in my opinion, improve the movie experience.
To understand the Dune universe better, I decided to give Frank Herbert’s Dune a try. I believe that I never finished the novel as it was too advanced for me at that time; nevertheless, I did grasp a basic understanding of Dune, and I believe the movie portrayed the events of the book excellently. Alternatively, an anonymous member of Dear Letterbox expresses that they felt “lost” while watching Dune. In contrast, their friend, who had read the book beforehand, had to explain the plot throughout the movie. Therefore, it would be suggested to give the book a read before deciding to watch the film.
In conclusion, from my point of view, the most recent Dune movie was dependent on the novel version and had puzzling sound production, but the amazing visuals and acting take the edge of those flaws. In the end, it’s up to you to decide how the movie adaption of Dune compares to the book. Have fun :)
Sincerely,
Dear Letterbox
