What is cottagecore?

Hi!

Basically, cottagecore is the name of an aesthetic that really embraces a sustainable, natural style. It brings people back to a more agricultural life, crafts and skills. This aesthetic started to become more popular during the pandemic, when people started finding themselves with enough time to make sourdough bread from scratch (definitely a cottagecore activity). Many people who adore this aesthetic claim that it is the “coziness” of it, and how connected it is with nature. Some key features of cottagecore include: flowers, houseplants, a natural colour palette with warm tones, and vintage items. As part of aesthetic, clothing style is also very important. The key to cottagecore outfits are the floral prints and the neutral warm tones. Fashion bloggers often go for knitwear in simple styles.

And, the answer to our supervisor’s follow-up question “Is the pumpkin spice craze considered cottagecore?” is that the pumpkin spice is technically part of cottagecore, as it fits in with the homey, natural, cozy aesthetic. However, not all pumpkin spice lovers rock the cottagecore aesthetic.

Hope this answered your question!
