Hello valued client,
The first step to writing your Dear Letterbox article is to find a question to answer. You can choose your favorite or most interesting question from a list provided by the execs to start writing! After finding a question, you should probably copy and paste a template (also provided by execs) into a new document that’s titled with your name to make writing the response easier.
To get into writing the actual response, you should remember the mnemonic GEARS.
G → Greeting: Greet the person who asked the question with a short introduction (ex. Hello dear customer).
E → Empathy: Have empathy for the person asking the question. If they’re asking about a personal issue in their life, be a bit more serious and attempt to put yourself in their shoes to give them an answer that may lead them to a solution. They are most likely looking for a solution, but sympathizing with the person can make them feel less alone in their struggle.
A → Anticipate possible situations: Give the person your perspective of what may happen if they decide to act on your advice. They’re coming to Dear Letterbox to get another person’s POV on the topic, so give them a variety of situations that you think may happen.
R → Realistic responses: Be somewhat realistic in your solutions so the issue doesn’t seem totally out of the inquirer’s hands. If they’re asking about what to do if they have feelings for two people at the same time, maybe don’t tell them to date both of them in secret, but instead tell them to take their time to sort out their feelings.
S → Smile and be positive: Try to be optimistic in your response while also staying realistic. People aren’t coming to you to give them the ultimate solution to their question, so don’t be too serious all the time.
I hope this helped!
