You might be shy to speak with people with who you want to get close to and make friends with. I recommend to first observe them for a while and so you can find chances to join or start the conversation. Wave hi to them and start by asking which class they have next! You won't be annoyed if someone comes to talk with you just to be friendly, right? Just join, everyone likes new friends. You actually won't need to worry so much about the common language if you don't have any. Maybe complaining about school life and all the homework is the start of a conversation.
Or if you want to find some closer friends like soulmates or besties, don’t be depressed if you can’t find one. It's not a problem that needs to be fixed, as it is something that only happens with time.
P.S. Don't just find anyone randomly to be friends with when you are eager to make friends. Quality over quantity!
