Since I’ve been single for a long time, I have no definite answers for it. But there are some “possible” reasons why you are still single.
1. You are not interested in being in a romantic relationship.
This is one of the obvious but the most common reason why people are still single. Simple. You are not interested! Maybe being in a romantic relationship does not mean a lot to you. You might not feel that relationships other than friendships and family relationships are necessary. If this is your case, it is so natural that you are still single. Just wait until you get interested in being in a romantic relationship!
2. Your circumstances don’t allow you to have a romantic relationship with others.
This is the second most common case that I’ve seen. As a IB full diploma student, I see some friends who are so busy that they sleep less than 4 hours. They have many things to do: IB, CAS, EE, TOK, clubs, SAT, AP, etc. Establishing romantic relationship might not be your prior interest. You are so busy at the point that you are not even able to put much effort on having a romantic relationship with others. If this is your case, I am sure that you will find your “love” after solving all the problems you encounter at this moment.
3. You haven’t met your “true love” yet.
This is what “some of my friends” believe. They think people who are still single haven’t met their “true loves” yet. It might not be the time when you should focus on having a romantic relationship. Maybe, it is time for you to focus on different things. “True love” does not come when you need. Don’t expect your true love to be in front of you. “True love” will be with you at unexpected time in unexpected situation.
4. You put too much effort on it.
This is the reason that I came up with based on my experience. I usually don’t have chance to establish romantic relationship with others especially when I put too much effort on it. I put too much effort on making boyfriend that even those who had crush on me ends with disliking me. If he/she feels like you are intentionally approaching to him/her, they will definitely feel burden. Just try not to overreact or overthink. Do whatever you have to do. Do whatever you want. Don’t color yourself in a color that others like. If you focus on what you have to focus on right now, someone will be attracted by you focusing on your own work!
5. Your dating standards are too high.
I saw lots of my friends having high dating standards in Korea. They want to date with someone who looks like HyunBin (a famous Korean actor) or IU (a famous Korean singer as well as an actress). Some friends want to date with those who are tall, handsome/pretty, kind, smart, rich, etc. These high dating standards can be the fatal reason why you are still single. Don’t you have pretty high standards when you are looking for someone to date with? If you are, look back on yourself. Do you deserve to date those who are literally meeting your high standards? Try to lower your dating standards. You might be able to have a romantic relationship with others!
These are the five points that I think what the reasons are why you are still single. This is the last advice that I can give to you: just wait. It might not be the time for you to have a romantic relationship with others.
